How I started learning languages...

🌍 I grew up watching my Mum learning Czech so that she could communicate with her relatives in Czechia. Her mum was a native speaker but had never taught her as a child, so she was teaching herself as an adult. Seeing her practising and making progress inspired me to take an interest in languages in school.

👩‍🎓I have a 2.1 Honours degree in Hispanic Studies from Sheffield University with a Distinction in Spoken Spanish. I spent one year of my degree studying Interpreting and Translation in Barcelona which was really interesting - I especially enjoyed making dubbing tracks for TV shows!

My teaching experience

👩‍🏫 I have a PCGE in Secondary Spanish and French and have been a classroom teacher for 20 years many of these as Head of Languages in schools across the Northwest.

📝 I am currently a GCSE examiner for 2 major UK boards at GCSE and have previously examined A level Spanish writing for Edexcel.

🥐 As I didn’t learn French at University I went back to it as an adult, completing my A level across two years at night school. I’ve worked continuously to improve my French to bring it in line with my Spanish and I think this experience has really informed how I teach adults as I have been through the process of being an adult learner myself!

🌴 I love travelling in France and Spain, and watch lots of films, TV and listen to music in both languages. I love to bring a cultural element into my lessons, whether it is funny idiomatic phrases, a cultural celebration or up to date information about life in French/Spanish speaking countries!

About me...

The Beatles monument in Liverpool. My little Shih Poo dog Pepe

🏡 I live in Crosby, Liverpool with my partner, my nearly two year old daughter and our scruffy little dog Pepe.

🏖️ In my free time when I’m not tutoring or working on my business I love to get out and about with my family. We love beach walks and day trips, usually anything involving animals keeps my daughter happy!

🎨 I also love to draw and paint, I find it so relaxing and a great way to destress.

✈️ And, of course...I love to travel and see new places! I will always have a soft spot for Barcelona as I studied there but I love the south of Spain as well. Granada and Seville are two of my favourite Spanish cities and I love the West coast of France.

🌍 Next on my list, is San Sebastián as I’ve heard so many rave reviews (especially about the food which is a big draw for me) and next stop in France is Marseille...recommendations are always welcome so let me know your favourite Spanish and French speaking places!
